What's Radon?
Radon is an odorless, tasteless gas produced from the breakdown of naturally occuring Uranium in soil and water. The US EPA defines Radon as a "class A" carcinogen and has identified Radon as the primary cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.
How's it Detected?
The Home Detective uses state-of-the-art continuous radon monitors to identify the hourly fluxuation of radon. This is more favorable than charcoal canisters and do-it-yourself tests. Our machines will detect tampering and power interuptions to assure greater accuracy of results. Our monitors even have a battery back-up.We provide a 48 hour test for real estate transactions and longer tests for private home owners.
What if my home has elevated radon?
Don't panic. Radon is one of the easiest and most affordable issues to correct in a home. The EPA suggested action level is 4 piCu/L. This means that a home which is for sale and tests 4.0 or above, should be mitigated. The typical cost for simple mitigation is about $800 to $1200. Radon is never a reason to walk away from a home purchase.
How do I know the test is accurate?
Our monitors are calibrated and cross-checked in accordance with EPA guidelines. The Home Detective does not mitigate Radon. We only provide unbiased test results in accordance with EPA protocals. There's never a possibility for a conflict of interest.
Your safety is our #1 priority.
